Like everything Face Age shows, the report describes a cosmetic analysis of visible skin from one photo. Not a medical diagnosis; does not replace a dermatologist.
Key terms
- Analysis Result: the screen after the scan, with the Skin Report, Routine and Products tabs, plus Compare when history is on.
- Skin Report: the tab listing the analyzed concerns and the badges.
- Badges: short highlights on the result, such as Skin Age, Skin Health and the Image Suitability Check.
- PDF report: the downloadable, branded version of the result.
Why would a shopper want a PDF?
Think about how people actually buy skincare online. Very few go from scan to checkout in one sitting. They want to look up an ingredient, check whether the serum fits their budget, or ask their partner what they think of the price. Then the tab gets closed.
A results page is gone at that point, unless you have history switched on. A PDF isn't. It sits in their downloads or their phone's files app with your logo on top, and it lists your products by name. When they come back to buy, they don't have to scan again or try to remember what was recommended.
There's also a sharing angle that's easy to overlook. People send these to friends ("look what it said about my skin"), and a file carries your brand along with it. That's a softer kind of reach than an ad, and you don't pay for it.
What does a skin analysis PDF report include?
The report is built from the same result the shopper saw on screen, so what's in it depends on how you've set the app up.
| Part of the report | What the shopper sees | What controls it |
|---|---|---|
| Header | Your logo, business name and brand color | Customization > Template > Business Information |
| Badges | Skin Age, Skin Health and similar highlights | Badge settings in Customization > Template > Analysis result |
| Concerns | The visible concerns analyzed from the photo | The scan, plus any concerns you disabled under Problem Support |
| Routine | Morning and night steps | Customization > Routine and your connected products |
| Products | Items from your catalog matched to the result | Connect products rules and display limits |
The redesigned version is faster to generate than earlier reports and carries more detail. The skin report feature page shows the current layout.
One thing to understand: the PDF is a snapshot of one scan. If the shopper scans again next month, they'll get a new report. Tracking change over time is what history and two-scan comparison are for.
How do you turn on PDF reports?
There isn't a separate on/off switch to hunt for. Once your store is on a plan that includes reports, the download icon appears on the Analysis Result. The work is in making the content good.
- Check your plan. Reports are a premium feature on Plus ($129/month) and above. See pricing.
- Go to Apps > Face Age > Customization > Template and fill in Business Information: logo, business name and brand color. Skipping this is the most common reason a report looks generic.
- In the same tab, open Analysis result and decide which badges to show. Skin Age suits anti-aging ranges; Skin Health is the more general one. Keep at least one on.
- Set up the Routine tab. Give each step a plain title like "Cleanser" or "Eye cream" (don't number them; Face Age numbers steps for you and drops any step that has no matching product).
- Review Connect products so the recommendations are strong. The report repeats them, so weak matches show up twice.
- Run a scan yourself, tap the document icon at the top right of the result, and read the PDF on your phone. That's how most shoppers will read it.
How do you get shoppers to actually download it?
The icon is small and sits next to the close button, so a lot of people won't notice it on their own. A few things help.
Mention it in your result copy. The Recommendation Description in Customization > Template is shown above the product list; a line like "Want to keep this? Tap the document icon at the top to save your report" does the job.
Reference it in your follow-up email. If you're collecting emails through the quiz and sending results through Basic Email or Klaviyo, tell people the report exists and how to get it next time. Face Age's own suggested wording is a good starting point: "Your skin analysis now comes as a PDF report you can keep, print or share."
And if you have staff on chat or in a shop, tell them about it. "Can you send me your report?" is a much easier conversation than asking someone to describe their scan from memory.
How does the report fit with other Plus features?
On its own a report is a nice extra. Combined with the other Plus features, it becomes part of a returning-shopper loop:
- Analysis history saves past scans, so a returning shopper sees "Previous analyses found" instead of starting over.
- Before and after comparison puts two scans side by side and tags each concern Improved, Regressed or Stable. Our guide to reading a before-and-after skin comparison walks through it.
- Routines give the report its morning and night steps, built from the scan and your connected products.
A realistic flow looks like this: someone scans, downloads the report, gets an email with their routine, buys a couple of products, comes back after a few weeks, scans again and compares. Each step uses something you already have on Plus.
Mistakes that make a report feel thin
- No routine configured. A report with concerns and products but no steps reads like a product list. Set up morning and night steps first.
- Default branding. This file lives on the shopper's phone for months. Make it look like it came from your store.
- Too many products. If you show twenty items, the PDF becomes a catalog. Use Total Display Limit and Display Limit Per Problem in Customization > Basic to keep it focused.
- Medical wording in your copy. Medical-sounding words and "guaranteed results" don't belong in a cosmetic report. Describe what was analyzed and what you suggest.
Privacy: what should you tell shoppers?
The PDF is generated for the shopper and saved on their own device when they download it. Your store's privacy policy still needs to disclose that you use AI skin analysis; Face Age provides a template. If you also store results on the server (Server API or Both history storage, or "Save analysis data" in the Shopify Customers integration), say so plainly and explain that results are linked to the shopper's account or email.
